All those words mean 'Grandmother' in various languages and different cultures. Grandmothers speak many languages too, and they come from all over the world. Our children can have one German grandmother and one Finnish, or one French and one Scottish. 

Bo is the lucky chap who has the two most loving grannies in the world. One is English and one is Russian. And every time he goes to see one of them he is transported into a different culture.
